Map ZynAddSubFX to Rosegarden

Sunday, April 18th, 2010

You might have connected Zyn to play a sound for your midi-keyboard or a single midi-track. But did you know that it’s possible to handle different sounds on different channels, enabling you to map Zyn’s entire instrument bank for multichannel playback. Rosegarden by default has instrument channels that correspond to Zyn.

First you configure Zyn to handle different sounds

ZynAddSubFx - Organ and Saw

The interesting things in the picture are:
Part1 Enabled1 Ch1

Load the desired instrument from the bank.

To load another instrument on a different channel step up the part number and load it from the bank.

Part 2

It should be displayed as:
Part2 Enabled2 Ch2

If you want to load more instruments just repeat the procedure.

Then you configure Rosgarden to map them

Rosegarden - Organ and Saw Rosegarden - FM Synth

On each track choose the same play devise that is connected to Zyn. The instruments #1, #2 correspond to the same channels in Zyn, Ch 1, Ch 2.

Out of sync with Rosegarden

Sunday, June 15th, 2008

If this is your problem. You have Rosegarden synced with any other application and are recording with a midi-keyboard. When you play along with the music in the synced app the monitoring is in sync but when you play back the recording the midi-track is out of sync in exact one or more measures. Rosegarden by default comes with a count-in of 2 measures. This can be changed in Settings -> Configure Rosegarden -> General -> Behavior and the parameter “Number of count-in measures when recording”. Set this parameter to 0 and use this settings when recording.
