Convert an image to music

Enchanted Duo - Sätrabrunn

Sound output: Image to Music Ogg

With the command “$ cat filename > /dev/dsp” you can convert any image to music. It works best with uncompressed files. Thanks to Dingbats for the tip.

Update:
CatImg

Edvard point to an interesting sub-bass phenomena. With a selective EQ, above command output this sound.

Hi! Nice little geeky thing to know :) Have you ever came up with any interesting sounding image?

  3. neitcho Says:

Well most images gives nothing but noise but some have interesting patterns. Few hidden messages are becoming discernible.

    Try this:
    cat /usr/share/icons/*/* > /dev/dsp

Interesting sub-bass things start happening in /usr/share/icons/hicolor/96×96
    :)

It would sound cooler if you could record the output, use a notch filter to cut out the annoying high-frequency bit and boost the bass.

@Edvard that’s really interesting and the sub-bass actually sounds musically.
